Warning, really: This article is meant to contain sarchasm directed at some ridiculous views and relationships, but ridiculous as they are, they may still be too close for comfort to the reality of many hard-working employees. On the other hand, some may find this article stupid, silly, old hat or just plain boring. If so, please just ignore it, and jump to the bottom paragraph.

HHRM:

Humane Human Resource Management anyone?

Copyright "Executive Players Magazine", reprinted by permission.

2009 is the official "be-kind-to-humans" year in business. White- and blue-collar workers alike will be treated like animals, i.e. humanely. Management everywhere will pretend that employees below the executive level deserve respect by repeated interfacing in writing and orally as well as attempting bi-directional (two-way) communication, where applicable.

Lenin

It is feared that fraternizing could have unpredictable consequences, but normally, 12 months are not enough to wipe out years of investment in well-entrenched and dependable animosity and disdain. A significant proportion of our readers' businesses have a delicate system of checks and balances in which management stick to their management stuff and keep out of the way of the employees who are needed to get the many stupid jobs done. If the cat gets out of the bag, there could be no turning back. Therefore, be very careful with information systems containing real life facts, figures, descriptions, procedures and de facto reality stuff that could reflect on management and might exacerbate the dangers of increasing productivity.

It is expected, however, that the "be-kind-to-humans" year will only have positive effects on preserving the status quo. Well planned and carefully rehearsed "séances" of the traditional pep-talk variety should continue to keep workers in their place. If needed, Internet technology phenomena, such as intranets, can be succesfully utilized as "bread and circuses", keeping the non-players happy by only superficially revealing real information. Propaganda still works, as Lenin (image) said: "A lied told often enough becomes truth".

Overall, the "be-kind-to-humans" year may be a popular event, and should pass with no one the wiser. For those who wish to strengthen their grip on the psychology of information handling, and feel they need better understanding of the empowering nature of structured information, the system AINTscience is a good case-study that is well presented and readily accessible. A word of caution: Do not let the "humans" know what you are reading. In the words of Francis Bacon: "Knowledge itself is power".
